
The LIRNasia and the Department of Media Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna, co-hosted the Launching event of the Information Disorder Research in Sri Lanka and a forum on building digital resilience. The event was held on the 1st of July 2025 at North Gate Jaffna Hotel, Jaffna.
LIRNEasia is a Colombo-based institution that conducts research to inform digital policy and regulation across the Asia-Pacific region. Based on the invitation from LIRNEasia, the above event was co-hosted by the Department of Media Studies.
The opening address was given by Prof. Sivakolundu Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna and Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. Nagalingam Vethanayahan, attended as the Chief Guest of the event. Helani Galpaya, CEO of LIRNEasia, spoke about Information Disorder.
The findings of the experimental study of research were presented by LIRNEasia researchers Sachini Ranasinghe and Pasdevan Nadaraja. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Helani Galpaya (CEO, LIRNEasia) and featured Prof. S. Raguram (Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna), Saminathan Wimal (Senior Lecturer, Department of Linguistics and English, Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna), Benislos Thushan (Attorney-at-Law and Development Practitioner), Thulasi Muttulingam (Freelance Journalist), Joy Jegarthan (Social Media Specialist, Hashtag Generation), and Isuru Samaratunga (Research Manager, LIRNEasia).
Ms.S.Poongulaly (Head, Department of Media Studies) and Staff & Level IV Students of the Department of Media Studies and Staff LIRNasia, Journalists from the Northern region were present at the event.
