The workshop on Social Media Declaration jointly organized by Center for Policy Alternatives and Jaffna Press Club in Green Grass, Jaffna on 9th of August 2019.
The workshop conducted by ‘Vikalpa’, CPA’s second citizen journalism initiative. It aims to build on the success of ground views by providing content in Sinhala and Tamil that explore facets of democracy and governance in Sri Lanka.
The Social Media Declaration is an attempt of 16 organisations to develop a code of conduct for Responsible Social Media use in Sri Lanka, recognizing the inviolable importance of the freedom of expression on or over social media, yet at the same time, encourage and strengthen the ethical, progressive, democratic and pro-social use of social media.
On the invitation of JPC, 16 students of third and fourth year of Media Studies actively participated in the workshop and collected the exposure on the responsibility to improve the responsible, ethical and democratic use of social media, using a human rights-based framework.
