Higher Diploma in Media Studies (HDMS), a community outreach study programme of the Department of Media Studies was inaugurated by Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jaffna at the virtual ceremony on 17.09.2021.

Dr.K.Suthakar, Dean, Faculty of Arts was the guest of honour of the event and it was chaired by Dr.S.Raguram, Head, Department of Media Studies.

The Vice-Chancellor made a remark in his keynote speech that the university provides an opportunity by the new study programme to the youths who missed the university entrance but aspiring to study professional journalism and the working journalists who do not possess appropriate educational qualifications in the relevant field.

The two-year part-time programme aims to make use of the valuable inputs of the media academics, senior journalists and media analysts to enhance the regional journalism.
