A Rural Library Established by Media Studies Student

‘Virudcham’, a rural library that aims to encourage the reading habit among the children who are living in remote areas has been established in Senaippulavu, Mamadhu, Nedurnkerny by the effort of Ms. Sarumathy Nagaratnam, a third-year Media Studies student as an outcome of the course ‘Development Journalism’.

The ceremonial opening of the library was held on 27th of December 2021 with the presence of the village people, school teachers, government officers, the representatives of the non-governmental volunteer organizations and the university students and academics.

The land and the new building for the rural library have been donated by the parents of the student and the books donated by the university students, the school community of Nedurnkerny Maha Vidhyalayam, ‘Sirahukal’ – a volunteer organization involved in facilitating rural libraries, Jaffna and Chunnakam Lions Clubs, ‘Puththaka Panpaaddu Peravai’ – Mallakam and well-wishers to the library.
