Awarding Ceremony for the Short Film Competition on Alcohol and Drug Awareness

The Alcohol and Drug Information Center (ADIC) in collaboration with the Department of Media Studies conducted the Shortfilm Competition among university students in order to make awareness of ‘How do the films making influences the promotion of the usage of alcohol and drug among youths’.
The competition was a part of the MoU signed between the Alcohol and Drug Information Center (ADIC) and the Department of Media Studies, University of Jaffna and it has conducted a second time in the year 2022 followed by the year 2020.
The competition includes the different stages of the interventions such as concept orientation, promotions, workshops on script writing and MoJo training, scrutinizing scripts and the process of filmmaking.

There are 30 short films that have been received and the panel of judges selected eight of them are the best productions considering the content and the quality.
The announcement of the awards and prize-giving held on the 14th of December 2022 at the boardroom of the University of Jaffna. Prof. S. Srisatkunarajh, Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest and Prof. K. Suthakar, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. S. Raguram, Head, Department of Media Studies, Mr. Pubudu Sumanasekara, Executive Director – ADIC, Mr. A.C.Raheem, Senior Programme Officer –ADIC, Ms. Nidarshana Selladurai, Programme Officer – ADIC and the lecturers and academic support staff of the Department of Media Studies, ADIC Officials and students were participated at the event.
Mr. Selvakumar Rinoshan (Third Year) was awarded the first prize and received a certificate of merit and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The second prize goes to the team headed by Mr.D.Dishan (Third Year) with the members Mr. T.Thavathevan (Third Year), Mr. N. Niroshanth (Third Year) and Ms. R. Dharshini (Third Year) and received the certificate of merit and cash prize of Rs. 30,000. Mr. R. Benaya (Second Year) was awarded the third prize and received the certificate of merit and cash prize of Rs. 20,000.
The prizes of fourth to eighth go to Ms. Kamsajini (Third Year), Ms. A. Sangeerthana (Fourth Year), Ms. S. Suganthani (Third Year) along the team with Ms. M. Dilaxshana (Third Year), and Ms. K. Christeepa (Third Year), Mr. S. Priyatharsan Croos (Third Year)and the team of Mr.Niroshan (Third Year) and Ms. Kirijah (Third Year) respectively. They have received certificates of merit and cash prizes of Rs. 5,000 for each placement.
