Workshop on ‘Digital Media Literacy and Unmasking False Narratives’

Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) conducted the workshop on ‘Digital Media Literacy and Unmasking False Narratives’ with the Collaboration of the Department of Media Studies on the 12th  of January 2024 (Friday) from 09.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m. at Arts Seminar Hall, Faculty of Arts.

The Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) has established itself as the leading media development institute in Sri Lanka. With its four operational arms, the Sri Lanka College of Journalism (SLCJ), the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka (PCCSL), the Advocacy and Free Media Division and the Media Resource Centre (MRC), the Institute offers systematic training for journalists, promotes self-regulation in the print media and advocates for a free and responsible media in Sri Lanka.

On par with the above, the SLPI invited the Department of Media Studies for the Workshop on ‘Digital Media Literacy and Unmasking False Narratives’ and the theme is relevant to the course units ‘Mass Communication and Society’ (CMCH 21013) and ‘Media, Democracy, Law and Ethics’ (CMCH 21033) of the Curriculum of the B.A. (Honours) in Media Studies.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof.S.Raguram, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Ms. Poongulaly Srisangeerthanan made the introductory remark. Mr. Mohammed Fairooz, Editor of ‘Vidivelli’, a Tamil-language national daily published by Express Newspapers and Ms. Keerthika Mahalingam, Training Coordinator, SLPI conducted the sessions as resource persons. 

The forty numbers of students from Level II Semester I of Media Studies benefitted from the workshop.
