Workshop on ‘Media Regulations and Best Practices’

Department of Media Studies conducted the workshop on ‘Media Regulations and Best Practices’ with the Collaboration of Media Law Forum, Colombo on the 08th of January 2024 (Monday) from 09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. at Arts Seminar Hall, Faculty of Arts.

The Media Law Forum is formed with a mandate to build a collective platform for media reforms in Sri Lanka with the participation of lawyers, journalists and other relevant stakeholders. It engaged in research, training, networking and partnerships for the betterment of Sri Lanka’s media-related laws, policies and practices among journalists and other stakeholders.

On par with the above the Media Law Forum invited the Department of Media Studies for the Workshop on ‘Media Regulations and Best Practices’ and the theme is relevant to the course units ‘Media, Democracy, Law and Ethics’ (CMCH 21033) and ‘Conflict Sensitive Journalism (CMCH 31053)’ of the Curriculum of the B.A. (Honours) in Media Studies.
The workshop was inaugurated with an introductory note of Prof.S.Raguram , Dean, Faculty of Arts and Mr.Viranjana Herath, Chair Person of Media Law Forum, Attorney-at-Law and Mr.Aingkaran, Attorney-at-Law conducted the sessions as resource persons.
The fifty-five numbers of students from Level III Semester I and Level II Semester I of Media Studies benefitted from the workshop.
Ms.S.Poongulaly, Head Department of Media Studies and Ms.Anoma De Alwis, Finance and Administration Manager of Media Law Forum and the Staff of Media Law Form were also presented in the workshop.
